Giorgio Maggi set for his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway

The Swiss will drive the Toyota Supra from Team HEZEBERG

A real dream will come true for Giorgio Maggi on August 14, 2021: The Swiss driver will take his seat behind the wheel of the #42 Toyota Supra and make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut together with Team Hezeberg. For Maggi, who currently competes for Hendriks Motorsport from the Netherlands in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, it is the start on the other side of the Atlantic.

The 23-year-old joined the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series in 2019 and immediately finished second in the overall EuroNASCAR 2 standings as a rookie. Since 2020, the Swiss driver has competed in the EuroNASCAR PRO Championship for top drivers in the European NASCAR world. So far in his career, Maggi has contested 27 NWES races and celebrated a total of three victories. The trip to the USA marks the next important step in the career of the racing driver from Hergiswil.

Maggi will be driving a 700-horsepower NASCAR Xfinity Series car for the first time at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway round course in the state of Indiana. The Cup and IndyCar races will also be held on the same weekend at the famous circuit in the United States of America, which is why the 23-year-old will have the chance to meet many great American motorsport icons. The Xfinity race will take place on Saturday, August 14, at 10 p.m. CEST. When the green flag falls, Maggi will be the first Swiss to race in a NASCAR National Series in the United States.

“It’s still really hard to believe because it seems so surreal,” said Maggi, who can hardly believe his luck. “I first came into contact with NASCAR two years ago and honestly had no idea about this type of motorsport. Now I’m going to be right in the middle of it! I’m really looking forward to it, but I’m also a little nervous, I have to admit. I’m super excited to be the first Swiss to compete in a NASCAR National Championship in the U.S.”

Team HEZEBERG boss Toine Hezemans said: “I am very happy that Giorgio Maggi will start alongside my son Loris [Hezemans] in Indianapolis. He is the first Swiss to race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He learned a lot in the EuroNASCAR 2 Championship and was the runner-up in 2019. He’s very mature for his age and has a lot of talent to be successful in the U.S. as well.”

Maggi now has a busy schedule ahead of him: Just two weeks after his Xfinity Series debut, the 23-year-old will travel to Most, Czech Republic, to get back in the points hunt for Hendriks Motorsports in the EuroNASCAR PRO Championship.
