Giorgio: Feeling confident about the season opener

Raring to go! Giorgio Maggi made thorough use of the official ADAC Formula 4 tests at Oschersleben to prepare for the upcoming season. Oschersleben is also the venue that will host the opening weekend of the new junior formula series in two weeks’ time. Giorgio’s short verdict after clocking up nearly 400 test kilometres: “It’s going well.”

The Swiss prodigy then delivered a more detailed summary of his impressions: “I’m driving a new car for a new team this year. Over the winter, I’ve made good personal progress, which was noticeable here at Oschersleben. From a lap time perspective, we have done really well. I’m feeling confident about the season opener.”

Under the guidance of his team, SMG Swiss Motorsport Group, the 17-year-old continued the process of familiarising himself with the 160bhp Formula 4 racing car. Giorgio set a personal best time on Wednesday of 1:27.499 minutes, which put him into the Top 10 in the timesheets.

Asked about the difference between the present car and the Formel ADAC model which he has been driving for the past two years, Giorgio replied: “The Formula 4 hugs the track better on the fast corners than the old car, and the steering is more controlled. I immediately adjusted to the new Pirelli tyres. Driving with steering wheel controls is also a lot of fun. And the car looks really cool.”
