Single seater racing, sports prototypes in LMP2 and LMP3: For a 19-year-old Swiss driver Giorgio Maggi can already count on a lot of experience in different racing categories. Now a new challenge is waiting for the promising talent: After a successful winter at the Asian Le Mans Series with a win at the four hours of Fuji and a podium finish at with the LMP2 Oreca 03 Judd Maggi in the 2017 season is racing at the Endurance Cup of the Blancpain GT Series with Attempto Racing (GER).
His strong performances in the past caught the attention of Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
His strong performances in the past caught the attention of Lamborghini Squadra Corse. So, the Swiss who also holds an Italian passport now receives full support of the Italian traditional squad. In March he immediately justified this trust in him: At his debut race with the 500 horsepower Lamborghini Huracán GT3 at the 12 hours of Mugello he managed to score a podium finish at his first GT appearance at all.
Which meant that immediately even bigger challenges followed and will continue to follow with his Team Attempto Racing – at the Endurance Cup of the highly valued Blancpain GT Series, an absolute top category in international motorsports. About 54 super sportscars by more than ten manufacturers driven by international top racers are competing at five weekends on some of the most challenging circuits worldwide. The highlight will be the legendary 24 hours of Spa-Francorchamps on the weekend from 27th to 30th of April. “I am really looking forward to the new challenge and I am proud to be part of the successful Blancpain Endurance Series already as a young driver”, Giorgio was adamant already before his first race at Monza in April.
There he caused for a little surprise at once: In the first of the three qualifying sessions the 19-year old rookie was the fastest Lamborghini driver and fastest of the Pro-Am category. In the race he drove the first stint and managed to stay out of all trouble and collisions in the field during the ever so crazy period just after the start in quite clever style: “I realised very quickly that a crash had happened in front of me and managed to avoid it just in time. So, I was one of the few who got through the mess there without touching anything at all.” In the end he and his two teammates Clément Mateu (F) and Max van Splunteren (NL) finished in P10 in the ProAm category, a result which is now meant to be improved again at the second race at Silverstone on 14th of May.
With Attempto Racing 2017
