Top-10 finish in Most: Giorgio Maggi impresses with strong comeback

Giorgio Maggi stormed into the Top 10 of the NASCAR Euro Series at the Autodrom Most – the Swiss driver shows a clear upward trend

For Swiss driver Giorgio Maggi from Team Speedhouse, the NASCAR Euro Series weekend at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic brought both highs and lows. After a difficult qualifying, the Swiss fought his way from 14th on the grid up to 8th place in Race 1 with a strong performance, collecting four bonus points for the most positions gained.

“I’ve always felt comfortable at the track in Most, it’s just so much fun to drive here,” said the 27-year-old. “In the wet practice we were able to check the car properly, and in the dry we worked on the setup. In qualifying it wasn’t quite enough for the Superpole, but overall the package felt really good.”

In the first race, the Speedhouse driver showcased his fighting spirit. Right after the start, Maggi gained several positions and established himself in the leading group. “The start was really good and I was able to make up quite a few places straight away,” he explained. “Later on I deliberately left a small gap to set a fast lap time for Race 2 – and with the sixth fastest time that worked out perfectly.”

While Race 1 brought a strong result with eighth place, Maggi was out of luck in the second heat. After a collision in the opening lap, he had to pit early with a damaged car. “Unfortunately the rear axle wasn’t right anymore, which caused extreme oversteer. It’s a pity we couldn’t finish the race,” said Maggi.

Despite the setback, the Swiss driver remains positive: “We’ve shown that we are competitive. Race 1 was very strong, and the pace overall was good. Of course it’s frustrating not to turn that into a result in Race 2 – but we take a lot of positives with us and want to attack again in Oschersleben.”
